Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 May 2026.

This policy explains how BuddyBug collects and uses information when parents and guardians create accounts, manage child profiles, read stories, receive recommendations, use subscriptions, and contact support.

1. Who this policy is for

BuddyBug is designed for parents, guardians, and family adults who create and manage accounts for bedtime reading. Children should not create their own BuddyBug accounts. If a child uses BuddyBug, they should do so with a parent or guardian.

BuddyBug is currently intended for families located in the United States. If you access BuddyBug from outside the United States, you understand that your information may be processed in the United States and that some features, rights, protections, pricing, taxes, or payment options may vary by location.

2. Information we collect

We collect parent account information such as email address, password hash, display name, country, language, referral code, subscription status, privacy preferences, consent records, support requests, and account activity.

We collect child profile information that a parent chooses to provide, such as first name or display name, age band, language, reading preferences, child profile settings, saved stories, reading progress, story feedback, and bedtime or recommendation context.

We collect technical and product-use information such as login events, checkout events, feature interactions, reading progress, device/browser information, security logs, audit logs, and diagnostic data needed to keep BuddyBug reliable and safe.

3. How we use information

  • To create and secure parent accounts.
  • To create child profiles and provide age-aware bedtime stories, narration, saved libraries, and recommendations.
  • To process subscriptions, trials, billing status, cancellations, and payment-related account updates.
  • To respond to support, safety, privacy, export, and deletion requests.
  • To improve product quality, reliability, content recommendations, accessibility, and family-safe defaults.
  • To prevent abuse, investigate security issues, enforce terms, and meet legal obligations.

4. Privacy commitments

We use personal information to provide BuddyBug, secure accounts, process subscriptions, support families, improve product quality, and meet legal obligations. We limit child profile information to what is useful for the parent-managed bedtime reading experience.

Parents and guardians control child profiles. Parents can request access, correction, export, or deletion through the Privacy & Data center or by contacting support.

5. Children's privacy

BuddyBug does not knowingly allow children to create accounts, make purchases, or provide contact details directly. Parent accounts control child profiles, preferences, and subscription choices.

We aim to collect the minimum child profile data needed to provide age-appropriate story discovery, progress tracking, and recommendations. We do not sell children's personal information.

For United States families, BuddyBug treats child profile information in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA"). Child profile data is provided by the parent or guardian account holder and is used to operate the family account, personalize stories and recommendations, and support the parent's privacy choices.

If you believe a child has provided information without parental involvement, contact us and we will review and delete it where appropriate.

6. AI and story generation

BuddyBug may use AI-supported systems and service providers to generate, edit, classify, recommend, or quality check stories, illustrations, prompts, and related content. Inputs may include story context, child age band, language, profile preferences, and safety constraints.

We aim to avoid sending unnecessary direct identifiers to AI providers. Where possible, prompts use story and profile context rather than account contact details.

7. Payments and subscriptions

Payments are handled by Stripe. BuddyBug does not store full card numbers. Stripe may collect card details, billing information, transaction identifiers, fraud signals, and payment status, and sends BuddyBug limited subscription information so we can activate, trial, renew, cancel, or recover access.

Stripe's own privacy policy applies to payment processing.

8. Service providers

We use trusted service providers to host the app, store data, process payments, send transactional emails, generate or support content, monitor product health, and provide customer support. Current or expected provider categories include hosting infrastructure, database/storage providers, Stripe, email delivery providers such as Resend, AI/content generation providers, analytics/event logging, and support tools.

These providers are expected to process information only as needed to provide, secure, support, or improve BuddyBug.

9. International transfers

BuddyBug is operated for a US-focused market and may process information in the United States. We may also use service providers in other locations where needed to host, secure, support, or improve the service.

10. Retention

We keep account data while an account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards for security, support, audit, billing, and legal purposes. Child profile and reading data should be deleted or anonymised when no longer needed or when a verified parent deletion request is completed, subject to legal obligations.

Some records, such as billing, security, support, and legal acceptance records, may be kept longer where needed for legitimate business, tax, security, or legal reasons.

11. Your choices and rights

  • Access, correct, export, or delete account and child profile data.
  • Update privacy preferences and recommendation personalisation settings.
  • Opt out of optional marketing where offered.
  • Cancel subscriptions through the billing flow or support route where available.
  • Contact support with privacy questions, account requests, or child profile deletion requests.
